Frequently asked questions.
what’s my first step?
Complete my information form or contact me via email at christy@milkandhoneylou.com or phone/text at (502) 490-2729.
What is your fee?
My private pay fee is $140.
Can I use my Insurance?
I am currently in the process of getting credentialed with Aetna, Anthem, Cigna, and United. Until then, I am offering self-pay services.
Please note that insurance can be confusing and each plan is individualized by employer. I recommend calling your insurance company via the number on the back of your card prior to your first session to see what your plan includes. Some insurances have an app where you can easily view your coverage for services.
Do you see couples?
While I am trained in couples counseling, I am only seeing individuals at this time.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are approximately 53 minutes in length. Longer sessions are available upon request, however, please note that these are self-pay only as insurance typically does not cover these longer sessions.
What can I expect from the first session?
The first session is spent orienting clients to therapy, establishing expectations, and reviewing your paperwork. We will discuss your goals for counseling and how to best work together to meet those goals. This is a great time to ask questions or share what worked or didn’t work for you in the past if you’ve been to therapy before.
How long will this take?
It really depends. Because trauma processing is slow, I tend to see clients for a longer period of time. Many of my clients share that they’ve seen results in a few sessions. Many prefer to continue counseling for further enrichment and growth. Research shows that EMDR can be effective in just 3-4 sessions.
How often will we meet?
It depends on your clinical need. I prefer to meet with clients weekly while we are getting to know each other and establishing a connection as the therapeutic rapport is essential to meeting your goals. We can drop down to bi-weekly or monthly once there is no longer a clinical need for weekly sessions.
What are your hours?
I see clients on Monday through Thursday. Please note that each client is scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. I do try to accommodate your schedule as best I can but am not always able to do so. If we have a scheduling conflict that impedes treatment repeatedly, I would help you find another option that works for you.
I don’t live in Kentucky. Can you still see me?
For legal reasons, no. I am only licensed in KY, so I am unable to treat anyone out of state.
Do you offer christian counseling?
Yes, I identify as a Christian and have specific training in incorporating faith into counseling. However, you do not need to identify as Christian to see me. I see individuals from many worldviews and only incorporate faith into counseling upon a client’s request. I do not push my faith onto my clients.
